The name is quite personal, adds Lika Roberts, known professionally as Lika Gzoghyan. It is not directly connected to the themes of her art, but it is more personal, a tribute to her father. The name, for Roberts, is a mark of respect, a mark of thanks, and it has become inextricable from her identity as an artist. It\u2019s the brand under which she has shown in international exhibitions and initiatives, taking her creative voice from Armenia to audiences worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lika doesn\u2019t talk about painting as something she chose one day. Rather she speaks of it as something that has always existed. Painting is something she\u2019s always done. It\u2019s not a job choice she made later in life. It\u2019s always been there. That lifetime relationship has influenced not only how she works, but how she understands herself. Art is not an accessory to her life, but woven into it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her art revolves with Armenia. Her homeland is cited as the biggest source of inspiration in her practice by Lika. Her paintings depict her history, geography, culture and national heritage. In her hands these are not straight drawings or literal scenes, but emotional and symbolic layers. Her work is a debate between the past and now, between national memory and contemporary expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her style, she says, is current abstract modern art with cultural aspects from Armenian ethnicity. It is this tension between abstraction and legacy that characterizes her work. She unites modern form and historic meaning rather than dividing them. The outcome is art that is at once personal and collective, bearing traces of human experience while referring to a larger cultural tale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Roberts is also frank about the pain of her journey. She is an art historian by occupation, but she has no formal training in academic drawing. She describes herself as an autodidact painter, who developed her artistic abilities via persistent effort, self-education and direct experience. What formerly could have been considered a drawback has become one of her greatest strengths. Her career has not been a linear academic one, but rather one built on determination, discipline and a drive to keep learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She says among her works she is most proud of \u201cAkunk\u201d. For her, the item is special because it is Artsakh, Armenian cultural history and identity. It also represents one of the most critical turning points in her artistic career, having been awarded the Grand Prix in London. For Roberts, the acknowledgment was not just an award, but a validation that the ideas she brings into her work connect beyond borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She doesn\u2019t plan her creative process so much as she lets it flow. She rarely starts with a hard and fast outline. Instead, she goes on instinct. She picks up the brush and lets the concept take shape in the actual act of painting. \u201cThis approach leaves room for surprise, for movement, for discovery.\u201d The work is made in the course of, not determined beforehand in its whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her exhibition history bears that philosophy forth. In 2021 she participated in the group show \u201cArt and Wine\u201d at the Artists\u2019 Union of Armenia. In 2023, she was involved in \u201cArtists Way\u201d at the Artists\u2019 Union of Armenia and received second place in a UK-based international contest \u201cGolden Time Talent\u201d for a collection of four paintings. In 2024, she participated \u201cThe Color of Peace\u201d at the Union of Artists of Armenia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2025, she broadened her international reach. She exhibited in \u201cThe Color of Peace\u201d at Modern Art Museum, Yerevan and Two Arcs Art Space, Yerevan. That year, her work was shown at World Art Dubai at the Dubai World Trade Centre, at the worldwide exhibition of Golden Time Talent, where she won the Grand Prize at Triton Square and The Shaw Theatre in London, and at “Essence” at Ikonika Art Gallery in Milan. She has also taken part in the competition for the Luxembourg Art Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2026 her work continued to tour. She exhibited at the Grand Hotel in Latina, Italy, at the international contemporary art show \u201cBouquet\u201d at Art Kvartal in Yerevan, at the international festival \u201cZatik Art Fest\u201d in Yerevan, and at the international exhibition \u201cFace to Face\u201d at the Nikoghosyan Cultural Foundation in Yerevan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Roberts\u2019 advice for younger artists just starting out is simple: don\u2019t be frightened to make art, trust your own journey, don\u2019t compare yourself to others, keep learning, keep creating and look ahead. \u201cConsistency and believing in your own art, that\u2019s going to pay off sooner or later,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, Roberts says, she is being presented in London, Milan and Dubai. An artist whose work ties local memory to international prominence, and a perfect place for him. Her road has been a slow one, a road based on tenacity and a strong sense of purpose. Her paintings may speak the language of abstraction, but their core is clear: Armenia, identity, memory, and the firm belief that art can convey them all at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
